Steps to install parquet flooring
1. Prepare the subfloor:
First, prepare the poorly done subfloor. Good cleaning and surface preparation can make a well-finished floor. Taking the time to ensure a clean surface and help to create a more beautiful and long-lasting floor.
2. Level the Subfloor:
To use a belt sander to sand the high spots or fill any sunken areas with a cement leveling compound. Clean the subfloor and remove all the dust with a wet cloth.
3. Measure the centerline:
Measure the centerline by using a tape measure when your subfloor is completely prepared. The starter, wall measures the distance of 4 or 5 tile widths. On each side of the room, mark this distance. Next start to find the centerline, from the length and width of the room. These two layout lines are marked with a chalk line.
4. Apply Adhesive:
First spread the adhesive in the wide area, then next to the starting wall after snapping both chalk lines. Lay the floor tiles on the spread adhesive rapidly. Be careful not to apply adhesive to cover the layout lines.
5. Lay the Floor:
First, start work in the center of the room and then move toward the walls. If the adhesive becomes dry, do not lay the tile on the dry adhesive. Scratch the old adhesive, and spread more on the floor. After completing the starting area, including cutting to the walls, then proceed to the second laying area, in this process we continue until the floor is covered. With a weighted floor roller by rolling the floor to fix the adhesive.
6. For the proper size and installation, cut the border tiles:
Lay a full tile face up at the border and center over the last full tile that you laid. Then take the second tile to position on the top of the first tile with the back edge of the second tile away from the wall or base trim about a few inches. A few-inch gap allows the expansion of the wood tiles. For the first tile using the front edge of the top tile to make a pencil mark as a guide. Along the pencil mark to cut the lower tile by using a handsaw and then install it at the border. Proceed in this manner until you finish cutting and laying all the border tiles.
7. Sand and seal:
Sand unfinished parquet with a flooring sander. If possible, consider hiring a dustless sander, which can decimate your indoor air. Once sanded to fine grit, it is ready for sealing. It is good to choose a high-quality low VOC floor sealant to reduce the off-gassing of harmful chemicals in your home.
